Etna Vulcano e Zafferana Etnea

Departure from Taormina Port or Messina Port. During the trip you will enjoy many beautiful sceneries. Mount Etna, with a bit more than 10.000 feet above sea-level, is the highest and largest active volcano in Europe. You will accend it from southern approach climbing up to the rifugio Sapienza at 5.906 ft. From here, a nice walk, through a spectacular lunar landscape, will lead you to the Crateri Silvestri formed in 1892. Free time for shopping and tasting from the wide selection of natural honey (eucalyptus, pistachio, strawberry, orange, lemon, coffe and many more). Once you are here you cannot miss to taste the really strong Fuoco dell Etna. Facultative excursion is possible from 5.906 ft to 8.202 ft.

The excursion continues with the visiting of Taormina, which stands on a rocky plateau on the slopes of Monte Tauro, dominating the Ionian coast. A nice promenade through the town will allow you to see the magnificient Greek-Roman Theatre, the Palazzo Corvaja (seat of the first Sicilian parliament in 1411), and then continuing walking through Corso Umberto you will reach a nice panoramic square, where the churches of Sant Agostino, San Giuseppe and the Porta dell Orologio are. Passing through this ancient gate you will reach the severe battlemented 13th century Cathedral of Saint Nicholas and the baroque fountain which stands in front of it.

Free time for shopping and for lunch.

Return to Messina/Taormina port in the afternoon.

Escursione Selinunte-Trapani

Departure from Palermo port or from your hotel for a fashionable experience in the archeological site of Selinunte, the old Selinus, the last Greek town on south Sicily. A beautiful walk inside the rest of the destroyed town and the temple brings you to other centuries, when the Carthaginians and the local greek battled there for the Mediterranean control.

After one hour road you will see one of the most famous Sicilian panorama: the Nubia salt lakes with its pool and all structure, the old and modern. Inside that natural reserve you will visit the salt museum and taste the tipical lunch of “salinaru”, men working there.

A panoramic road leads us to Marsala, visiting the museum famous all over the world for its Phoenicians boat, not far from the museum a pretty wine shop offers you a taste of the well-known Marsala dessert wine.

Return to your hotel or to the Port.

Escursione Segesta-Erice

Departure from Palermo port or Hotel. After an hour and a half drive you will reach the ancient town of Segesta, standing on a vast plateau in a naturally well defended position, probably built between the 5th and the 4th century BC. Here you will visit the quite well preserved Greek Theatre and the magnificent Doric Greek Temple, dating from the last 30 years of the 5th century:both are on two separate hills.

Then drive to the medieval town of Erice, which was settled by The Elymians and was an important religious site associated with goddesses of fertility. Wander through its ancient streets, the 12th century Norman Castle which is surrounded by a lovely park and visit some of the famous pastry home made shops, world-famous for marzipan candies and other delicacies like almond and pistachio pastry.

Return to the hotel or Port in the afternoon.

Escursione Savoca-Taormina

Departure from the port of Messina or from the port of Taormina.

A stunning drive takes you to Savoca, which is considered to be one of the most attractive places in the surroundings of Taormina. Free time for a granita at the Bar Vitelli, which has a collection of photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot some scenes of “The Godfather II”. The table, where Micheal Corleone sat to ask the padrone for the hand of his delightful daughter Apollonia is still there. After Michael s wedding, they walk down from the church to this Bar on the square for the reception.

Then we walk along the streets of Savoca, and you have the possibility to visit the Historic Ethnologic Anthropological Museum in the historical centre of Savoca, or the Catacombs.

The excursion takes you to Taormina, the “Pearl of the Mediterranean”. You cannot miss to visit: the amazing Greek-Roman theatre with the view of Mount Etna; the Public Garden, an English-style garden. A panoramic walkway lined with benches faces the view over the sea and Etna, while flower-beds, lawns, hedges, trees and bushes spread over the large terrace. The Palazzo Corvaja, which was the seat of the first Sicilian parliament in 1411. A nice walk through Corso Umberto leads to a nice panoramic square where churches and the Porta dell Orologio are. Free time for shopping and lunch.

Return to Messina Port or Taormina Port in the afternoon.

Escursione Palermo – Monreale

Departure from Palermo Port or Hotel.

The visit of the capital city of Sicily will start with the magnificent 12th century Cathedral. It is a mix of architectural styles and a pantheon of royalty. It contains the tombs of Roger II and Frederick II among others. Close by the imposing Norman Palace, first built by the Arabs and later used and modified by the Normans and the Spanish viceroys.

From here, you will take Corso Calatafimi, that leads to the town of Monreale, home of one of the most impressive Italian Cathedral. Built in the 12th century, it is famous for its Byzantine mosaic covered interior walls (the mosaic cycle is the second largest on earth) and the adjacent Benedictine cloister. Back to Palermo, we will stop at the Catacombs of the Capuchins where a maze of corridors contain thousands of mummified and perfectly dressed bodies dating from the late 16th century to the late 19th century.

Golfo di Mondello (Palermo)

Lunch in a nice restaurant in the city centre. In the afternoon, you will go up Monte Pellegrino, the most beautiful promontory in the world according to Goethe. We will see the sanctuary of Santa Rosalia, Palermo patron saint. It has been built on the site of the cave where she lived as an hermit and died in the 12th century.

Day 1: Palermo

Arrival at the airport, transfer to the hotel. Welcome drink, free dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Palermo / Monreale

After breakfast, visit the city of Palermo with the Cathedral, the Martorana Church as well as a panoramic tour of the historic centre, and depart to Monreale. Visit the Cathedral and the Benedectine Cloister. After lunch time at leisure or possibility of an optional tour to the Catacombs, Mount Pellegrino (the sacred mountain of Palermo) and the village of Mondello. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Segesta / Erice / Selinunte

After a buffet breakfast depart for Segesta. Visit of the Doric Temple dating back to the V° century B.C.; visit of Erice ,a small and charming medieval town located 750 mt above the sea level. Lunch at the restaurant. In the afternoon visit of Selinunte, ancient Greek colony, visit of the archeological area. Overnight in Selinunte or Agrigento.

Day 4: Agrigento / Piazza Armerina

After breakfast visit of the Valley of the Temples including the Temple of Juno, Concordia, Heracles, Zeus and Castor and Pollux. Continue to Piazza Armerina. Lunch at the restaurant. After lunch visit of the Roman villa del Casale, famed for its well preserved mosaics dating back to the III°-IV° century A.D. Continue to Catania. Overnight.

Day 5: Siracusa / Catania

After breakfast visit of Siracusa the wealthiest of the ancient Greek towns. Visit of the archeological area including the famous latomie of Paradise and the “Ear of Dyonisos”, the Greek Theatre and the Roman Anphitheatre. Continue the visit of Ortigia island with the famous Cathedral and the Aretusa Fountain. After lunch departure for Catania; panoramic tour of the city. Time at leisure. Overnight.

Day 6: Etna / Taormina

After breakfast, weather conditions permitting, excursion to Mount Etna, the highest and most active volcano of Europe, ( 1800 mt). Continue to Taormina. Visit of the Greek Theatre, and free time for shopping. Return to Catania, overnight.

Day 7: Messina / Cefalù

After breakfast, depart to Messina, the city of the Strait, only three kilometers away from the Calabrian coast. Continue to Cefalù and visit of the old town with its imposing Cathedral. Time at leisure. Overnight in Palermo.

Day 8: Palermo
After breakfast, transfer to the airport.

Day 1: Palermo Airport

You are greeted at Palermo Airport and transferred to the hotel. Upon arrival, time to unpack and rest. After dinner minitour-Palermo by night.

Day 2: Palermo- Monreale

After breakfast, your local guide (half day) will show you where the Arab-Norman art and architecture reached the pinnacle of its glory with the Monreale Duomo, launched in 1174 by William II and represent the scene from the Old and New Testaments all in golden mosaics. Then to the Palatine Chapel in Palermo, which was the crowning architectural achievement of his Grandfather Roger II. Continuing by seeing in the afternoon with the driver, Piazza Pretoria, Santa Caterina and Via Maqueda with its four corners who converge Palermo at a quartet of baroque palaces left over from the heyday of Spanish rule dates from the 1560, and Markets. Then, you will visit the Cathedral with various style built through the Greek-Roman, Norman, Arabic, Islamic domination. Return to the hotel.

Day 3: Monte Pellegrino-Mondello-Segesta

After breakfast, depart to visit the church of the Patron Saint of Palermo, called Santa Rosalia. You can admire the view of Palermo city, after you visit a typical fishing village, Mondello.

Then you will continue the tour towards Segesta, where you can admire the Temple and the Theatre surrounded by a suggestive landscape. Then transfer to Marsala. Dinner in Marsala.

Day 4: Erice-Marsala

This day you can visit the medieval village of Erice, on the top of a hill, and walk through its tiny, characteristic streets. You visit in Erice a lovely pastry-shop to taste local marzipan and almond-based candies, made from recipes developed generation ago. Time to leisure.

Then go to Marsala which is the home of the world-famous Marsala Wine and the main town of wine-production. To reach this town, we cross the romantic Salt Way Road where you will admire the saline-saltpans and the great windmills.

Then, during afternoon we transfer to a local Winery Pellegrino, an important Sicilian winery that has always believed in the extraordinary enological potential of its land and has much years of experience in producing premium wines. Here, you will taste different wines: the whites, beginning with their sensory characteristics and ending with their labels; the red, with incisive identities and intense or at times impenetrable color, full by nature yet richly elegant and soft; the natural sweet, where the growing success is due to their capacity to please, their moderate alcohol levels and their versatility in matching foods and occasions for consumption. Return to the hotel in Marsala.

Day 5: Selinunte-Agrigento

Today after breakfast departure to Selinunte, to an ancient city founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC. Here you can visit the ruins of the destroyed ancient city and the the ruins of the temples.

Then you will be taken to Agrigento, where you can have lunch and in the afternoon, after that you can admire the Valley of the Temples. Return to the hotel in Agrigento.

Day 6: Piazza Armerina-Caltagirone

After breakfast continue your journey across the island from Agrigento to Piazza Armerina,a spectacularly sited town lying inland in central Sicily, to look at the extraordinary mosaics of the Roman Villa del Casale, which are the most spectacular in the world, and the antique Roman thermal bathes. In the afternoon you go on to visit Caltagirone, which city is famous for its ceramic production. Here you have the opportunity to admire a workshop where you will be shown to the ins and outs of pottery-making. Then you continue your tour to Siracuse to the hotel.

Day 7: Syracuse

Today’s trip takes you around Syracuse. Syracuse city and port of Italy, capital of Syracuse Province, on the southeastern coast of the island of Sicily. The old portion of the city is located on Ortygia Island, separated by a canal from the mainland. The city is a tourist center, a fishing port, and a marketing center for agricultural products, particularly olive oil and citrus fruits. Syracuse was founded by the ancient Greeks, and in antiquity it was the largest and most powerful city in Sicily. The remains of the old city include a Greek theater, cut out of rock and designed to hold an audience of 15,000; a Roman amphitheater; the great altar of Hiero II; and the citadel built by Dionysius the Younger early in the 4th century BC. The Fountain of Arethusa is a famed landmark. Overnight stay in Syracuse.

Day 8: Catania-Mount Etna

This morning you depart from Siracuse to Catania where you can visit a typical fish market and the old town center. In the late morning go up to the slopes of Mount Etna, which is the highest active volcano in Europe. Much of the surrounding landscape is covered with solidified lava. Thanks to this lava and the volcano minerals the wine in this area is really unique and different from other Sicilian wine. You can have lunch here in 2000m high. In the afternoon you go down from the mountain to Santa Venerina. Here you will visit the Murgo Winery. In the end of the day you will be transferred to Taormina to the hotel.

Day 9: Taormina-Savoca-Taormina

This day starts with visiting the Greek Theatre and shopping in Taormina’s beautiful center. Then your tour leads to Savoca, to a small village 20 kms away from Taormina on the top of the mountains, where the world famous film, The Godfather was shot.

Return to the hotel in Taormina.
